Fork Lift Truck Training
The fork lift truck training programme was delivered by Enta
Training. The aim of the project was to engage with Children’s
Centres in the North of Birmingham, including Lakeside, Newhall,
Featherstone and The Brambles, and to recruit women users to
consider a career in non gender-traditional training and employment
opportunities.
To date the project has engaged and recruited 20 women from across
the centres and provided them with an information advice & guidance
interview. This was followed by a basic skills assessment to assess
the client’s suitability for the programme. Those not reaching the
Level 1 in basic skills required to progress onto the FLT training
were offered support and training to achieve it. In total, 12 women
have successfully moved on to undertake training to achieve their
Fork Lift Truck Counter Balance Licence.
Ten women successfully completed the programme and achieved the
counter balance licence. These women have then either progressed
onto further learning or are actively seeking work. The programme
was delivered in partnership with Crossmatch Solutions, who were
responsible for the practical delivery of the Fork Lift Truck
Licence. The fork lift truck programme is drawing to an end and the
delivery has been both rewarding and beneficial to all the women
that have taken part.
ENTA are currently delivering the ‘Girlz for Graft’ project, which
has engaged 18 women through Lakeside and The Brambles Children’s
centres. After initial IAG sessions the women chose to complete a
course in either woodwork, computer recycling or horticulture.
Courses last for 30 hours and lead to a City and Guilds
qualification. Participants attend for 3 days a week and childcare
is readily
available and
covered by the project. On completion of the courses in September,
participants will be assisted in job searching. The woodwork and
computer options were the most popular, with no participants
currently choosing to study horticulture. The group are motivated
and positive and initial feedback has been good.
