UCE Soft Indicators

Information, Advice and Guidance

‘People sometimes struggle to understand “soft-indicators” as a term, an example of what we mean by this is measuring the progress made by beneficiaries in terms of improving self-esteem, personal skills, motivation etc as a result of engagement in the project, as opposed to the hard/easier to evidence outcomes for example ‘how many people got a qualification or a job.’

Charlotte Carey, Agender ‘You Can Too’ conference, March 2007

The soft indicators work has been moving rapidly over recent weeks and Charlotte’s final report will be published and available soon on this site. It will include the stories and journeys of many of the women taking part in the Agender programme and how their involvement has helped them develop as individuals.

Some of these case studies feature on the DVD produced by the WINGS ‘Women into Non-traditional Employment’ working group. This is now complete and 1000 copies are being produced and distributed.  It features women discussing their experience of non-traditional work and attitudes toward such roles. Participants from the UK are joined on film by case studies from Agender’s Spanish and German partners.

There will be ample opportunities to hear how the soft-indicators work has developed as Agender enters its mainstreaming phase and partners prepare to disseminate the projects findings. The Adjust the Balance ‘Social Footprints’ symposium on the 11th December will see Charlotte and her colleagues from across the regional EQUAL projects present findings from the projects and discussing their different approaches. This conference will be highly informative and beneficial to anyone who is trying to evidence the impact of their work above and beyond simple ‘number crunching’.
