WINGS - The
Transnational Partnership.

About WINGS
Agender’s transnational partnership is called ‘WINGS’ (Working Integration
for Non-Gender Segregation) in which the UK works with three other
Development Partnerships:
-
‘Berufsfortbildungswerk’ (Ruhr Region, Germany)
-
‘Tramas’
(Sardinia, Italy)
-
‘Igualem’
(Barcelona Province, Catalonia)
Transnationality is a crucial element of the Agender programme. It sets
out a clear challenge to all involved: how to unite projects in the same
theme in different countries and provide outcomes which are of benefit to
each local partnership. It is precisely this challenge which promotes some
of the most innovative and creative ways of working.
There are three principal mechanisms of working together:
Transnational
workshops
are 2 day events
where partners are divided into smaller workshops tackling common thematic
issues. Each group agrees a joint development plan to achieve a particular
outcome/product by the end of the project.
Study visits
are a 2 day
series of project visits which enable practitioners to get to know
partners’ approaches and methods.
Management Groups
are 1 day
meetings for the Transnational Managers from each partner DP to plan the
work programme and budgets and assess progress.
Each country
hosts each event once during the lifetime of the project.

Transnational
Workshops and Joint Development

Participants at the Agender Transnational Workshop in
Milan, Italy, September 2006
Agender has had its
fourth and final workshop in Manresa, Spain. This was very productive,
thanks to the hard work of all four DPs, and WINGS has now either
completed, or very nearly completed four exciting and innovative products.
Working with Transnational partners in Spain, Italy and Germany, WINGS has
produced:
-
A “living library” structured along the lines of the categories
in the UK’s “Review of Gender Research”
http://www.gender-living-library.net
-
A European Employers’ Award celebrating the achievements of
progressive employers in the field of gender mainstreaming
-
A booklet focusing on good practice in Direct Services for Women
across the four countries
-
DVDs
showing case studies of women going into Non-Traditional employment,
and highlighting good practice examples for employers.
The Mainstreaming
Steering Group are working hard to make sure that these products are
widely disseminated and used by organisations in the UK and across Europe.
As part of this strategy, Agender took part in the West Midlands Equal ESF
Mainstreaming Group Evening Reception in Brussels. The event was attended
by the European Commission, DWP and other UK representation in Europe.
It followed a very
successful two days exhibiting Agender’s findings at Employment Week,
where several excellent links were made and many of the projects findings
discussed and disseminated. There will be a final policy-showcasing event
in Brussels on 7 November 2007. This will showcase the achievements and
policy conclusions of all four LSC Equal projects to high-level
representation from all nine participating member states.
Study visit to
Cagliari
A final study visit
to Cagliari, Sardinia took place in May 2007. Participants were able to
see first hand some of the initiatives to tackle high female unemployment.
Participants visited:
-
Ifold, Training Centre for Women, promoting non-traditional employment
-
A Female Entrepreneurship Observatory at the Regional Agency for
Employment
-
“Baby park” workplace nursery at
Tiscali
-
“Polaris” Sardinian Technology Park
